Marrocos: O descobrir de uma nova cultura

Deixa-te encantar pelo contraste das paisagens, desde toda a costa atlântica, as montanhas, as suas cidades e o deserto, com imensos parques naturais, pelos sabores da culinária e pelo cheiro das especiarias, pela música tradicional e o toque do artesanato típico.

Marrocos é um país árabe do Norte de África onde vais puder deixar-te encantar pelo contraste das paisagens, desde toda a costa atlântica, as montanhas, as suas cidades e o deserto, com imensos parques naturais, pelos sabores da culinária e pelo cheiro das especiarias, pela música tradicional e o toque do artesanato típico.

Uma viagem a Marrocos é uma experiência verdadeiramente sensorial.

Fiz esta viagem no final de abril, durante 4 dias na época do Ramadão. Ao longo deste post vou-te dizer o que visitei em cada dia!

Dia 1: Paradise Valley 🌴

O primeiro dia em Marrocos foi passado numa tour ao Paradise Valley.

Considerado um oásis com piscinas naturais frescas rodeado por palmeiras e montanhas de cortar a respiração, perfeito para relaxar, apanhar sol e saltar de penhascos. ☀

➡ Story Time: Esta tour foi feita durante a parte da tarde onde tivemos direito a um almoço com comida tradicional marroquina, a famosa tajine com chá. Também tivemos a oportunidade de visitar um jardim botânico e fazer uma degustação de mel antes de embarcarmos na nossa aventura pelo Paradise Valley.

Gostei da experiência, pois fizemos uma caminhada pelo meio das montanhas até chegarmos às piscinas. Contudo, não se deixem enganar… Esta é uma caminhada exigente e que deve ser feita com a ajuda de um guia. As fotografias enganam, pois, a cor da água e o número de piscinas naturais não correspondeu ao esperado!

Dia 2: Marraquexe

A minha experiência em Marraquexe não foi a melhor e vou contar-vos porquê! 🌍

Nesta viagem só tive oportunidade de visitar Marraquexe durante um dia. O guia da tour foi buscar-nos ao nosso hotel em Agadir e chegámos a Marraquexe por volta das 11h onde, supostamente, outro guia nos iria acompanhar numa visita pela cidade até às 19h30. Contudo, esse guia nunca apareceu e tivemos de regressar a Agadir às 16h30. A juntar a esta aventura, tivemos outro azar, pois fomos almoçar num restaurante onde tivemos que esperar 2h para nos servirem a refeição. 🐫 (Isto foi somente a minha experiência, não significa que vos vá acontecer! Até porque no final deste post, vou abordar a melhor forma de vocês visitarem este país que tanto tem para oferecer).

Tendo estes fatores em consideração, só conseguimos visitar o mercado e deslumbrar o exterior da Mesquita de Koutoubia, a maior mesquita da cidade. Também pretendíamos visitar o Palácio Bahia, mas estava fechado por ser o mês do Ramadão.

📌 Seguindo o conselho de outras pessoas, aconselho-vos a ficarem hospedados em Marraquexe e a ficarem 2 ou 3 dias.

Souks de Marraquexe

Caso vás ao mercado de Marraquexe, prepara-te, pois vais entrar num labirinto sem fim…

Pessoas a regatearam, a quererem falar contigo, vários barulhos, carros e motos a passarem pelo lado esquerdo, bicicletas a virem pelo lado direito, pessoas a seguirem-te porque te querem vender produtos e várias cores e cheiros. A esta experiência junta um pouco de calor e o típico ar seco característico da cidade. 🌇🐫

Dicas 🧭
• Pratica a tua habilidade de negociação – os preços estão sempre inflacionados duas, três ou até mesmo quatro vezes mais. Por isso tenta baixar o preço o máximo que conseguires. Vais ver que um certo drama faz parte da encenação.
• Fica atento/à tua mochila. Como em todos os países, aconselho-te a utilizares uma bolsa para colocares à tua frente, com o telemóvel e os documentos que necessitas – A Medina de Marraquexe tem câmaras espalhadas pelas ruas e polícias à paisana pelas ruas.
• Evita contacto visual e afasta-te o mais possível das pessoas, principalmente na zona da Djemaa El Fna, pois podes ter a infeliz oportunidade de te colocarem uma cobra ou um macaco ao ombro sem aviso prévio e quererem que pagues por isso.

Dia 3: Motor4 pelo Deserto 🏍️

Eu gosto de aventura, contudo não me considero uma pessoa aventureira. Espero que isto vos faça sentido! Se não, já vão perceber o porquê! 🧭

No último dia decidimos fazer uma tour de Moto4 pelo deserto 🐪

Eu estava super entusiasmada para esta parte da viagem. Até que me coloquei em cima da moto e fiquei com medo de cair. Entretanto após algumas motivation talks entre eu e os meus amigos, um dos rapazes que estava a tratar de aprontar as motos, disse-me que vinha comigo!

⏩ Conclusão: Ele conduziu a moto no início, eu conduzi o resto do caminho e adorei (a minha parte aventureira veio ao de cima e percebi que não era necessário ter medo!)

Foi uma sensação super libertadora e apesar de não ser em deserto puro, aconselho imenso a terem esta experiência e a superarem os vossos medos, por mais parvos que vos possam parecer posteriormente!

Nesta tour também tivemos a oportunidade de beber um chá tradicional marroquino, numa cabana com música ao vivo e bastante animação!

Dia 4: Visita ao mercado e à praia de Agadir e Story Time 🛍️

Todos os destinos são bonitos, podemos ver o seu exterior, contudo nem sempre temos a oportunidade de ver a sua realidade. Estávamos no McDonald’s de Agadir, vieram duas crianças pedir-nos comida, demos aquilo que tínhamos no momento e vimo-las partir. Esconderam-se num canto do jardim para o segurança não as expulsar do local. Nunca tinha visto nada assim, uma felicidade que mascarava as feridas que aquelas crianças já deviam de ter, por estarem a comer. Fiquei a observá-los, no final, começaram a jogar “pedra, papel, tesoura” para perceberem quem ia ficar com o último pedaço, riam-se, riam-se muito.

Passaram por nós, e com o sentimento mais puro que alguma vez senti, agradeceram e foram colocar a embalagem no lixo.

Momentos destes fazem-me perceber o quão hipócritas por vezes somos ao queixarmo-nos de situações que acontecem no nosso dia a dia.

Achei por bem ter este desabafo, porque o mundo das viagens é lindo, já a realidade por detrás delas pode ser devastadora.

Como foi ir a Marrocos na altura do Ramadão? 🐫

Sobre o Ramadão, a verdade é que estava um pouco apreensiva quanto a esta situação. Contudo, não há motivos para tal!

Marrocos é um dos países muçulmanos menos conservadores, porém assim como em toda a época do ano, temos de saber respeitar as diferentes culturas.

Os muçulmanos não comem nem bebem entre o nascer do sol e o pôr do sol do dia seguinte. Mas fazem-no com satisfação. A época do Ramadão é um período muito importante para qualquer muçulmano, é a época do ano em que estão mais próximos de Allah. Rezam mais assiduamente e todos os dias as mulheres marroquinas, prepararam uma infinidade de iguarias para quando se quebra o jejum. A primeira refeição para quebrar o jejum, chama-se Iftar e consiste em meia dúzia de tâmaras, sopa e doces típicos do país. Daí os horários de todos os estabelecimentos comerciais, e museus sofrerem alterações.

Durante o Ramadão a maioria dos marroquinos saem à noite de casa, depois de comerem. Vão visitar parentes, encontram-se com amigos ou fazem caminhadas até aos souks (mercados) que estão abertos até tarde.

De forma geral:

  • Se o objetivo da viagem é teres uma experiência gastronómica, tens que ter em atenção que algumas lojas ou restaurantes podem não estar abertos.
  • Os monumentos podem não estar abertos ou fechar mais cedo.
  • A maioria das lojas fecham durante uma ou duas horas ao pôr-do-sol.
  • Podes comer e beber bebidas sem álcool, ninguém te vai dizer nada por o estares a fazer.
  • Como em qualquer altura do ano, deves de ter cuidado com o vestuário e ter em atenção cobrir os ombros, ou utilizar vestidos comprimidos. Não usar nada excessivamente curto, nem decotado.
  • As tours podem ter um horário reduzido de forma que os guias estejam em casa antes de anoitecer.

O que achei da experiência em geral?

Se eu tivesse de descrever de uma forma geral a minha experiência em Marrocos, seria “Um descobrir de uma nova cultura”. Sim, foi um choque cultural, mas se há algo que eu adoro em cada viagem que faço é descobrir novas realidades, novos tipos de pensamento, e sendo que foi a primeira vez que saí da Europa, fiquei fascinada pelas diferenças existentes.


Contudo da próxima vez que visitar o país quero ir acompanhada de um guia!

Queres visitar Marrocos? Não cometas o mesmo erro que eu! Explora Marrocos como um local!

Marrocos é um país ao qual quero voltar, pois como puderam perceber 4 dias não foi o suficiente para realmente emergir na cultura deste país e saber todas as curiosidades do mesmo.

Morocco: Discovering a new culture

Morocco is an Arab country in North Africa where contrasting landscapes will enchant you. From the Atlantic coast, the mountains, its cities, and the desert, with its many natural parks, the flavours of its cuisine, the smell of its spices, traditional music, and the touch of typical handicrafts.

A trip to Morocco is a truly sensory experience.

I made this trip in late April for four days during the Ramadan season. Throughout this post, I will tell you what I visited each day!

Day 1: Paradise Valley🌴

The first day in Morocco was a tour of the Paradise Valley.

Considered an oasis with cool natural pools surrounded by palm trees and breathtaking mountains, perfect for relaxing, sunbathing, and cliff jumping.

➡ Story Time: This tour was done during the afternoon, where we were entitled to lunch with traditional Moroccan food, the famous tajine with tea. We also had the opportunity to visit a botanical garden and have a honey tasting before embarking on our Paradise Valley adventure.

I enjoyed the experience as we hiked through the middle of the mountains until we reached the pools. However, don’t be fooled… This is a demanding hike and should be done with the help of a guide. The pictures are misleading, as the colour of the water and the number of natural pools did not correspond to what was expected!

Day 2: Marrakech

My experience in Marrakesh was not the best, and I’ll tell you why! 🌍

On this trip, I only had the opportunity to visit Marrakech for one day. The tour guide picked us up from our hotel in Agadir, and we arrived in Marrakech around 11 am, where, supposedly, another guide would join us on a city tour until 7:30 pm. However, that guide never showed up, and we had to return to Agadir at 4:30. Adding to this adventure, we had another bad luck as we went to a restaurant for lunch, where we had to wait for two hours for a meal. 🐫 (This was just my experience, it doesn’t mean it will happen to you! Even at the end of this post, I will address the best way for you to visit this country with so much to offer).

Considering these factors, we could only visit the market and dazzle outside the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in the city. We also intended to visit the Bahia Palace, but it was closed because it was the month of Ramadan.

📌 Following other people’s advice, I would advise you to stay in Marrakech for 2 or 3 days.

Marrakech Souks

If you go to the Marrakech market, be prepared because you will enter an endless maze.

People haggling, wanting to talk to us, various noises, cars and motorcycles were passing on the left side, bicycles coming from the right side, people following us because they wanted to sell us products, and various colours and smells. Add to this experience a bit of heat and the typical dry air characteristic of the city. 🌇🐫

Tips 🧭

  • Practice your negotiation skills – prices are always inflated two, three or even four times more. So try to lower the cost as much as you can. You’ll find that a certain amount of drama is part of the staging.
  • Keep an eye on your backpack. As in all countries, I advise you to use a bag to put in front of you, with your cell phone and the documents you need – Marrakech’s Medina has cameras all over the streets and plainclothes police officers on the streets.
  • Avoid eye contact and stay as far away from people as possible, especially in the Djemaa El Fna area, as you may have the unfortunate opportunity to have a snake or monkey put on your shoulder without warning and want you to pay for it.

Day 3: Motor4 through the Desert 🏍️

I like adventures. However, I don’t consider myself an adventurous person. I hope this makes sense to you! If not, you’ll understand why in a minute!🧭

On the last day, we decided to take a Moto4 tour through the desert 🐪

I was super excited about this part of the trip. Until I got on the bike and was afraid of falling off. However, after some motivational talks between my friends and me, one of the guys getting the bikes ready told me he was coming with me!

⏩ Conclusion: He drove the bike in the beginning, I drove the rest of the way, and I loved it (my adventurous side came out, and I realised that it was unnecessary to be afraid!)

It was a super liberating feeling, and even though it’s not in the pure desert, I highly recommend you have this experience and overcome your fears, no matter how silly they may seem to you afterwards!

On this tour, we also had the opportunity to drink traditional Moroccan tea in a hut with live music and entertainment!

Day 4: Visit the market and beach of Agadir and Story Time 🛍️

All destinations are beautiful. We can see their exterior. However, we don’t always have the opportunity to see their reality. At McDonald’s in Agadir, two children came to ask us for food. We gave them what we had at the moment and watched them leave. They hid in the corner of the garden so that the security guard wouldn’t chase them out of place.

I had never seen anything like it, happiness that masked the wounds those children must have already had from eating. I watched them, and in the end, they started to play “rock, paper, scissors” to see who would get the last piece. They laughed; they laughed a lot.

They passed by us, and with the purest feeling I have ever felt, they thanked us and went to put the package in the trash. Moments like these make me realise how hypocritical we sometimes are when we complain about situations in our daily lives. I thought it was good to have this off my chest because the world of travel is beautiful, but the reality behind it can be devastating.

What was it like going to Morocco at the time of Ramadan? 🐫

About Ramadan, the truth is that I was a bit apprehensive about this situation. However, there is no reason for that!

Morocco is one of the least conservative Muslim countries; however, just like any time of the year, we must know how to respect the different cultures. 

Important information: 

  • Muslims do not eat and drink between sunrise and sunset. But they do it with satisfaction. 
  • Ramadan is a very important period for any Muslim. 
  • It is the time of the year when they are closest to Allah. They pray more assiduously, and Moroccan women prepare many delicacies daily for when the fast is broken. 
  • The first meal to break the fast is called Iftar and consists of half a dozen dates, soup, and sweets typical of the country. 
  • That is why the opening hours of all stores and museums have changed.
  • During Ramadan, most Moroccans leave home at night after eating. They visit relatives, meet up with friends, or take walks to the souks (markets) open until late. 

Generally speaking:

  • If the purpose of the trip is to have a dining experience, you have to be aware that some stores or restaurants may not be open.
  • Monuments may not be open or close early.
  • Most stores close for an hour or two at sunset.
  • You can eat and drink non-alcoholic beverages. No one will tell you anything for doing so.
  • At any time of the year, you should be careful with your clothing and pay attention to covering your shoulders or wearing compressed dresses. Do not wear anything excessively short or low-cut.
  • The tours may have a reduced schedule, so the guides will be home before dark.

What did I think of the overall experience?

If I had to describe my experience in Morocco, it would be “A discovery of a new culture.” Yes, it was a culture shock, but if there is one thing I love about every trip I take, it is discovering new realities and new types of thinking, and being that it was my first time out of Europe, I was fascinated by the differences that exist.

But the next time I visit the country I want to go with a guide that I know and trust!

Ilha de São Miguel: Roteiro 5 dias

Se gostas de turismo de natureza, de aventura, de estar completamente rodeado/a de verde, de ouvir as ondas do mar, de água cristalina, de miradouros de cortar a respiração, flores, de um ambiente completamente descontraído e com a possibilidade de banhos em água termais quentes então estás no post certo.

Onde ficar hospedado/a?

Durante os 5 dias em que estive na Ilha de São Miguel, fiquei hospedada em Ponta Delgada no My Story Hotel Vila Nova, localizado muito próximo da zona ribeirinha e do aeroporto. Aconselho imenso este alojamento, pois dispunha de ótimas condições, com uma staff excecional e um pequeno almoço muito bom.


Como se deslocar na ilha?

Sem dúvida que para visitares a ilha aconselho-te a alugares um carro, pois vais ter muito mais facilidade de deslocação. Contudo, este foi um desafio para mim e para a minha amiga. Muitas das empresas de alugueres de carro que aparecem nos websites gerais, só autorizam o aluguer do carro caso o condutor tenha um cartão de crédito para dar como garantia. Infelizmente eu que ia ser a única condutora, não tenho e não me davam a hipótese de utilizar o cartão de crédito de um familiar.

Descobrimos por isso uma empresa local de rent-a-car chamada Way2Azores, que nos permitiu efetuar a reserva do automóvel sem a necessidade de um cartão de crédito e de uma caução, caso optássemos pelo Plano Premium e foi assim que aconteceu. Eu aluguei um Mazda CX3 por um preço muito acessível. O carro era muito confortável e muito seguro.

Itinerário de 5 dias

Este foi o itinerário que fizemos durante os 5 dias e não o itinerário que planeámos fazer. Infelizmente a meteorologia não esteve a nosso favor e por isso fizemos alterações de última hora dependendo da aplicação do SpotAzores (vou falar sobre esta App na secção das dicas). Nos mapas de cada dia, também te vou dicas de restaurantes (optámos por ir a restaurantes não conhecidos).

Por exemplo, não foi possível visitar a Lagoa do Fogo, assim como os seus miradouros, devido à forte chuva e nevoeiro. Contudo, no final do post vou também deixar um link para veres o itinerário original.

Primeiro dia

No primeiro dia chegámos por volta das 13h30, após termos preenchido o contrato do aluguer do carro, almoçámos no Restaurante “Sal Grosso” em Ponta Delgada e começamos o nosso itinerário por volta das 15h30.

  • Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões

Este é um dos pontos turísticos de São Miguel mais procurados e admirados no Concelho do Nordeste. É um lugar de paragem obrigatória. 

O parque possui uma flora magnífica, fantásticas cascatas, assim como vários moinhos e diversos locais para fazer um piquenique.  Vais ter mesmo de explorar o lugar com uma câmara fotográfica na mão, pois vais deparar-te com atrações maravilhosas.

  • Chá da Gorreana

A plantação da Gorreana é a mais antiga de chá da Europa. A Gorreana cultiva este produto maravilhoso desde 1883, mantendo desde então as tradições originais do oriente.

O cheiro do chá e das flores que circundam a propriedade bem como a vista deslumbrante sobre o mar azul e o verde das montanhas constitui um autêntico paraíso.

Segundo dia

  • Parque Terra Nostra 

O Parque Terra Nostra remonta a 1775, quando o abastado comerciante americano, Thomas Hickling, se apaixonou pelas Furnas e decidiu criar o refúgio de relaxamento perfeito que ainda hoje seduz todos os visitantes, inclusive já foi premiado pela Condé Nast Traveller na categoria de “Melhores Retiros Verdes”.

O Parque tem “uma das mais notáveis coleções de camélias da Europa”, com cerca de 800 exemplares e é conhecido mundialmente pelo seu tanque termal.

Ficámos aqui a manhã inteira do segundo dia, para pudermos ver o Parque com calma e para desfrutarmos do tanque termal.

Dica:

Se ficares hospedado no Hotel do Parque pode experimentar o inesquecível banho termal até às 22h (Eu não tive oportunidade de ter esta experiência, mas caso tenhas tempo de o fazer, aconselho a juntares esta experiência ao teu roteiro).

Caso queiras experimentar o tanque termal, leva uma muda de roupa (e de preferência roupa velha). Devido ao elevado teor de ferro existente na água, a roupa pode ficar estragada.

Se quiseres comer o cozido das furnas na zona do Parque Terra Nostra tens várias escolhas. Deixo-te aqui várias opções de restaurantes (Restaurante “Terra Nostra Garden”, Restaurante “O Miroma”, Restaurante “Tony’s”).

  • Poça da Dona Beija

A Poça da Dona Beija é um lugar de relaxamento puro e de revitalização da alma e do corpo. O alto teor férreo das águas furnenses é conhecida pelos seus resultados terapêuticos.

(Este lugar está no itinerário, mas acabámos por não visitar. Devido ao COVID não podem existir ajuntamentos de pessoas, por isso, para visitarmos o lugar teríamos de esperar 1h30 de forma a que as pessoas que já se encontravam no lugar pudessem sair. Optámos então por ir diretamente para a Lagoa das Furnas).

  • Lagoa das Furnas

Sabias que esta zona está rodeada de intensas manifestações vulcânicas? Contudo, não tens de te preocupar! Apesar de existirem 5 vulcões considerados ativos na Ilha, todos estão adormecidos, sendo que a última erupção do Vulcão das Furnas foi em 1630.

Aqui vais encontrar o incontornável verde luxuriante, as fumarolas onde se prepara o famoso cozido e a bela Capela de Nossa Senhora das Vitórias.

  • Parque Grená

O Parque Grená fica localizado nas Furnas e é um parque totalmente imerso na natureza. O Parque tem uma das quedas de água mais altas da ilha, vários trilhos, que vão dos 500 m até aos 5,4km, um dos maiores eucaliptos da ilha e ainda, é frequentemente solicitado como cenário para vários filmes.

Nos últimos anos, o parque esteve ao abandono e sofreu uma enorme degradação, até que no final de 2019, voltou a abrir, totalmente renovado e após terem sido removidas mais de três toneladas de lixo.

Para mim, este é um lugar de passagem obrigatória na ilha. Foi um dos lugares mais bonitos que já tive a oportunidade de visitar e aqui vais ter mesmo a experiência do que é estar completamente rodeado por natureza.

Terceiro dia

  • Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego

O verde da paisagem, as suas escarpas, a imensidão do oceano e o contraste com as diversas flores que existem no local fazem deste miradouro uma paragem obrigatória para quem visita a Ilha de São Miguel.

Todos os elementos estavam numa harmonia perfeita. Aqui senti uma sensação de liberdade absoluta e uma paz interior enorme que já não sentia há algum tempo.

  • Caldeira Velha

A Caldeira Velha localizada no perímetro do vulcão do Fogo, também conhecida como Centro de Interpretação Ambiental da Caldeira Velha, é um Monumento Natural e Regional.

O local é formado por poças de água termais com uma temperatura média de 34º graus. Aqui vais ver paisagens maravilhosas, que te vão proporcionar uma experiência única de paz, silêncio e tranquilidade.

Entrada: Se somente quiseres visitar o local, o bilhete de adulto, tem um custo de 3€. Caso, queiras tomar um banho nas águas termais, o valor é de 8€. Devido ao Covid, reserva o teu lugar com antecedência, pois os acessos são restritos dependendo do número de pessoas.

  • Lagoa do Congro

A Lagoa é um tesouro escondido e não faz parte da rota turística tradicional e nem todas as pessoas se aventuram a conhecê-la. Tem em conta que este é um local de difícil acesso, o caminho pode apresentar alguns desafios como formações rochosas, árvores caídas e enormes raízes.

Porém, este trilho vale bastante apena, aqui vais conseguir encontrar um ambiente única de conexão com a natureza. A Lagoa tem muita vegetação, uma água de coloração verde intensa e muitos peixes saltitantes.

No dia em que fiz este trilho, estava imensa chuva e imenso nevoeiro, o que ainda dificultou mais a sua realização.

Quarto dia

Adiámos a visita à Lagoa das 7 Cidades para o quarto dia, a meteorologia dizia que ia ser o dia com menos probabilidades de chover. Contudo, a manhã foi passada com muita chuva e nevoeiro o que fez com que eu tivesse muita dificuldade em conduzir e tornou impossível o objetivo de deslumbrar todos os miradouros e lagoas em torno da Lagoa das 7 cidades.

A única que foi possível visitar foi a Lagoa do Canário e após essa visita fizemos o nosso caminho para a aldeia das 7 cidades e em seguida para os Mosteiros (único lugar descoberto de acordo com a App Spot Azores, onde almoçamos e ficámos na praia até próximo das 15h30. Felizmente, quando já dávamos o dia por terminado e estávamos desanimadas, decidimos dar uma última oportunidade à lagoa, abrir o Spot Azores para ver como estava o tempo. Agarrámos nas nossas tralhas, fomos para o carro e em menos de 30 minutos cumprimos o nosso objetivo, com literalmente um pingo de sorte).

  • Lagoa do Canário

O seu acesso é bastante fácil e podes realizar o percurso a pé. O trajeto é feito pelo meio da vegetação e vai proporcionar-te mais uma vez uma sensação de calma, devido à preciosa natureza, repleta de árvores, plantas e flores.

  • Aldeia das Sete Cidades

A aldeia de Sete Cidades é muito pitoresca, com casinhas típicas e uma igreja de estilo neogótico.

  • Miradouro da Ponta do Escalvado

Construído sobre uma falésia, o Miradouro da Ponta do Escalvado, oferece uma fantástica vista para duas referências da paisagem natural: a Ponta da Ferraria e os Ilhéus dos Mosteiros.

  • Praia dos Mosteiros

A Praia dos Mosteiros é muito conhecida devido à sua areia escura de origem vulcânica, mas também devido ao magnifico pôr de sol que a contempla e pela presença permanente dos ilhéus dos Mosteiros no horizonte.

  • Lagoa das 7 cidades: Miradouro da Vista do Rei

A Lagoa das Sete Cidades é considerada uma das 7 Maravilhas Naturais de Portugal, onde se inserem as lagoas Verde e Azul, formadas, segundo a lenda, das lágrimas derramadas de um pastor e de uma princesa que viviam um amor proibido, pois a princesa já estava destinada a casar com um príncipe, um herdeiro de outro reino. Ao encontrarem-se pela última vez, choraram ambos tanto, que ao seus pés se formaram duas lagoas: uma azul, feita de lágrimas caídas de olhos azuis da princesa; outra verde, devido às lágrimas derramadas dos olhos verdes do pastor. Este amor, pode ter acabado para todo o sempre, mas as lagoas feitas de lágrimas de ambos, essas jamais se separaram.

O Miradouro da Vista do Rei, oferece uma vista deslumbrante sobre a cratera da Sete Cidades. Este é um dos mais conhecidos bilhetes postais dos Açores.

Várias são as plantações de ananases que podes visitar na Ilha de São Miguel e nós escolhemos visitar a Plantação de Ananás dos Açores. Este é um delicioso recanto localizado a poucos minutos do centro de Ponta Delgada.

Aqui vais embarcar numa viagem pela história e cultura da produção centenária que dá origem ao melhor ananás do mundo: o Ananás dos Açores. E ainda é oferecida uma degustação gratuita do Doce de Ananás 1864 e do Licor de Ananás 1864.

Dicas:

  • Impermeáveis

Os Açores são muito conhecidos pelo seu microclima. Por isso para a realização desta viagem, aconselho-te a levares um impermeável, roupa confortável e ténis de caminhada, assim como algumas peças de verão (como uns calções e t-shirts), mas também roupa de “inverno” (calças e uma sweatshirt).

  • Mudas de roupa

Se quiseres experimentar as diversas águas termais (Poça da Dona Beija, Parque Terra Nostra ou a Caldeira Velha) aconselho que leves roupa velha, que se possa estragar e diferentes biquínis (opta por levar biquínis ou fato de banho escuro), pois devido ao ferro que a água contém podes ficar com a roupa estragada.

  • Estradas muito fáceis de conduzir

Um dos meus maiores medos era a condução, pois estou habituada a uma cidade pouco movimentada, sem grandes inclinações e tinha receio de conduzir na Ilha devido ao seu pavimento. Contudo, as estradas são muito calmas e de fácil condução.

  • Parques de estacionamento nas atrações são quase sempre gratuitos.

  • Vai em junho (recomendação da senhora do hotel)

O grande desgosto dos Açores foi mesmo o tipo de clima. Ao falarmos com uma das colaboradoras do Hotel sobre o facto de não termos tido a oportunidade de ver várias das atrações devido à chuva e ao nevoeiro, a senhora aconselhou-nos a fomos aconselhadas a visitar a Ilha no mês de junho, pois é um mês onde usualmente as lagoas têm uma maior probabilidade de estarem descobertas e o tráfego de turistas ainda é pouco.

  • SpotAzores

Esta é uma aplicação obrigatória de instalar para a viagem aos Açores. Aqui vais ter a possibilidade de ver em tempo real como estão as atrações devido às câmaras colocadas nos diferentes lugares.

  • Leva sempre comida e água

Muitos são os locais que ficam remotos e completamente no meio da natureza, por isso, leva sempre contigo água e comida, para te salvaguardares.

  • Restaurante O Estradinho

Uma tasquinha típica, com comida ótima e um serviço excelente, sem demoras e com preços muito acessíveis (aconselho profundamente a experimentarem o bife de atum). Fiz as minhas últimas 3 refeições aqui, pois o hotel onde estava hospedada fica mesmo ao lado. Muitas vezes há restaurante que são sobrevalorizados, e que por vezes perdem a sua essência, por isso é que deixo esta sugestão. Foi um tesourinho que descobrimos.

Questões e Respostas:

  • Foste por quanto tempo? Eu fiz esta viagem durante 5 dias. Contudo, devido às deslocação do aeroporto, só tive 3 dias inteiros na ilha. Sem dúvida que aconselho a ficarem mais 1 ou 2 dias de forma a conseguirem ver as atrações com calma.
  • O que mais gostaste nos Açores? O facto de estar em constante contacto com a natureza. É mesmo um lugar muito tranquilo, perfeito para recarregar energias.
  • Alugaste carro? Se sim, onde? Way2Azores
  • Consegues fazer um top 5 de atrações? Na minha opinião, sem ordem, eu diria, a Lagoa do Congro, a Lagoa das Sete Cidades, o Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a Praia dos Mosteiros e Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego.
  • Recomendas ficar sempre no mesmo hotel? Ou mudar consoante o itinerário? Eu fiquei sempre no mesmo hotel, e gostei muito da estadia. Contudo sabendo o que sei hoje, acho que optaria por mudar de hotel consoante os lugares da ilha a visitar de forma a não ser tão cansativo e a conseguir ficar mais tempo em determinados locais.

Ilha de São Miguel: Roteiro 5 dias

São Miguel Island: 5 days Itinerary

Today I will show the Island of São Miguel in the Azores. I will share with you the itinerary I did, where I stayed, where to eat and other tips that will be very useful while you are preparing your trip. Are you ready?

If you like nature tourism, adventure, being surrounded by green, listening to the waves, crystal clear water, breathtaking viewpoints, flowers, and a completely relaxed environment. If you want to take a bath in hot thermal waters, you are in the right post.

The Azores are composed of 9 islands and are considered the Hawaii of Europe. Today I will show the Island of São Miguel in the Azores. I will share with you the itinerary I did, where I stayed, where to eat and other tips that will be very useful while you are preparing your trip. Are you ready?

How to go?

There are direct flights from Lisbon and Porto, and the airlines that operate this route are Ryanair, TAP Air Portugal and SATA.


Where to stay?

I stayed in Ponta Delgada during the five days at the My Story Hotel Vila Nova, located very close to the riverside area and the airport. I highly recommend this accommodation, as it has great conditions, exceptional staff and a very good breakfast.


How to get around the Island?

No doubt that to visit the island I advise you to rent a car. Renting a car was a challenge for me and my friend. Many of the car rental companies that appear on the websites only authorise the rental of the vehicle if the driver has a credit card to give as a guarantee. Unfortunately, I was going to be the only driver, and I don’t have one, and they wouldn’t give me the chance to use a family member’s credit card.

So we discovered a local rent-a-car company called Way2Azores, that by choosing the Premium Plan, they allowed us to book the car without needing a credit card or deposit. The car I rented was a Mazda CX3 for a very affordable price. The vehicle was very comfortable and very safe.

5 Days Itinerary

The first itinerary I’m going to show you is the itinerary we did for the five days and not the itinerary we planned to do. Unfortunately, the weather was not in our favour, so we made last-minute changes depending on the Spot Azores app (I will talk about this app in the tips section). I will also give you tips on restaurants (we chose to go to unfamiliar restaurants).

For example, it was impossible to visit the Lagoa do Fogo and its viewpoints due to heavy rain and fog. However, I will also leave a link to see the original itinerary at the end of the post.

First Day

On the first day, we arrived around 1:30 pm. After filling out the rental car contract, we had lunch at “Sal Grosso” Restaurant in Ponta Delgada, and then we started our itinerary around 3:30 pm.

  • Ribeira dos Caldeirões Park

Ribeira dos Caldeirões Park is one of the most visited and admired tourist attractions of São Miguel in the Nordeste Municipality. It is an obligatory stopping place.

The Park has magnificent flora, fantastic waterfalls, several windmills and several places to have a picnic. You’ll have to explore the area with a camera in your hand, as you’ll always be coming across wonderful attractions.

  • Gorreana Tea

The Gorreana plantation is the oldest tea plantation in Europe. Gorreana has been growing this wonderful product since 1883, maintaining the original oriental traditions ever since.

The smell of the tea and flowers surrounding the property and the breathtaking view of the blue sea and the green of the mountains is a true paradise.

Second day

  • Terra Nostra Park

Terra Nostra Park dates back to 1775. It all started when the wealthy American merchant, Thomas Hickling, fell in love with Furnas and created the perfect relaxation retreat that still seduces all visitors. Condé Nast Traveller has even awarded it in the category of “Best Green Retreats”.

The Park has “one of the most remarkable collections of camellias in Europe”, with around 800 specimens and is known worldwide for its thermal pool.

We stayed here the whole morning of the second day, so we could see the Park calmly and enjoy the thermal tank.

Tip:

If you stay at the Park Hotel, you can experience the unforgettable thermal bath until 10 pm (I didn’t have the opportunity to have this experience, but if you have time to do so, I advise you to add this experience to your itinerary).

If you want to try the thermal tank, take a change of clothes (preferably old clothes). Due to the high iron content in the water, your clothes may be damaged.

If you want to eat the “Cozido das Furnas” typical dish in the area of the Parque Terra Nostra, you have several options of restaurants. I leave you here several choices of restaurants (Restaurant “Terra Nostra Garden”, Restaurant “O Miroma”, Restaurant “Tony’s”).

  • Poça da Dona Beija

The Poça da Dona Beija is a place of pure relaxation and revitalisation of soul and body due to the high iron waters known for their therapeutic results.

(This place is on the itinerary, but we ended up not visiting. Due to COVID, there cannot be gatherings of people, so to visit the site, we would have to wait for 1h30 so that the people already in the place could leave. We then opted to go directly to Lagoa das Furnas).

  • Furnas Lagoon

Did you know that intense volcanic manifestations surround this area? However, you don’t have to worry! Although there are five volcanoes considered active on the island, all are dormant. The last eruption of the Furnas Volcano was in 1630.

Here you will find unmissable lush greenery, the place where the famous stew is prepared and the beautiful Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias.

  • Grená Park

Parque Grená is located in Furnas and is a park immersed in nature. The Park has one of the highest waterfalls on the island, several trails ranging from 500m to 5.4km, one of the largest eucalyptus trees on the island, and is often requested as a backdrop for several films.

In recent years, the Park was abandoned and suffered a huge degradation, until, at the end of 2019, it reopened, fully renovated and after more than three tonnes of rubbish had been removed.

For me, this is a must-visit place on the island. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the opportunity to visit, and here you will experience what it is to be surrounded by nature.

Day Three

  • Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint

A must-see attraction. The green landscape, its cliffs, the immensity of the ocean and the contrast with the several flowers that exist in the place make this viewpoint a mandatory stop for those visiting São Miguel Island.

All the elements were in perfect harmony. Here I felt a sensation of absolute freedom and an enormous inner peace that I hadn’t felt for some time.

  • Caldeira Velha

Caldeira Velha, located on the perimeter of the volcano of Fogo, also known as Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, is a Natural and Regional Monument.

The site is formed by pools of thermal water with an average temperature of 34º degrees. Here you will see wonderful landscapes, which will give you a unique experience of peace, silence and tranquillity.

Entrance: If you only want to visit the place, the adult ticket costs 3 euros. If you’re going to take a bath in the thermal waters, the price is 8 euros. Due to Covid, reserve your place in advance, as access is restricted depending on the number of people.

Parking: Free of Charge

  • Congro Lagoon

The Lagoa is a hidden treasure and is not part of the traditional tourist route, and not all people venture to know it. Bear in mind that this is a difficult place to access. The path can present some challenges, such as rock formations, fallen trees and huge roots.

However, this trail is well worth the effort. Here you will be able to find a unique atmosphere and connection with nature. The Lagoon has lots of vegetation, deep green water and lots of jumping fish.

On the day I made this trail, it was raining and foggy, making it even more difficult.

Fourth day

We postponed the visit to Lagoa das 7 Cidades to the fourth day. The weather APP said it would be the day with less chance of rain. However, the morning was spent in heavy rain and fog, making it difficult to drive and impossible to see all the viewpoints and lagoons around the Seven Cities Lagoon.

The only one it was possible to visit was the Canário Lagoon. After that, we made our way to the village of the seven cities and then to Mosteiros beach. Luckily, when we considered the day over and discouraged, we decided to give the Lagoon one last chance. So opened the Spot Azores App, and out of a sudden, the Lagoon’s weather was uncovered. We grabbed our gear, headed to the car, and in less than 30 minutes, we accomplished our goal.

  • Canário Lagoon

Its access is quite easy, and you can do the route on foot. The path goes through the vegetation and will give you once again a sense of calm due to the precious nature, full of trees, plants and flowers.

  • Sete Cidades Village

Sete Cidades village is very picturesque, with typical houses and a neo-Gothic style church.

  • Ponta do Escalvado Viewpoint

The Ponta do Escalvado viewpoint offers a fantastic view of two reference points in the natural landscape: Ponta da Ferraria and Mosteiros Islets.

  • Mosteiros Beach 

Mosteiros beach is well known for its dark volcanic sand and its magnificent sunsets, and the permanent presence of the Mosteiros islets on the horizon.

  • Seven Cities Lagoon: King’s View Viewpoint

Sete Cidades Lagoon is considered one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal, where the Green and Blue lakes are located.

According to legend, the Lagoon was formed from the tears of a shepherd and a princess. They had a forbidden love relationship, as the princess was destined to marry a prince, a successor from another kingdom. When they met for the last time, they both cried so much that their tears formed two lagoons at their feet: one blue, made of tears falling from the princess’s blue eyes; the other green, due to the tears of the shepherd’s green eyes. With this, their love was sealed forever.

The King’s View Viewpoint offers a breathtaking view over the crater of Sete Cidades. This is one of the best-known postcards on the Island.

Fifth day

  • Pineapple Plantation

There are several pineapple plantations you can visit on São Miguel Island, and we chose to visit the Pineapple Plantation of the Azores. This is a delicious place located a few minutes away from the centre of Ponta Delgada.

Here you will embark on a journey through the history and culture of the century-old production that gives origin to the best pineapple in the world: the Azores Pineapple. You will also be offered a free tasting of the 1864 Pineapple Candy and the 1864 Pineapple Liqueur.

There are three options for entry to the Azores, available for travellers screening at the airports:

  • EU Digital COVID certificate of testing or lab test result: passengers must fill in the MySafeAzores questionnaire and submit the lab result or the testing certificate within 72 hours before the beginning of their trip, whose code is generated by the MySafeAzores platform will be validated upon arrival in the Azores.

Dicas:

  • Raincoat

The Azores are well known for their microclimate. So for this trip, I advise you to bring a raincoat, comfortable clothes and walking shoes, as well as some summer clothes (like shorts and t-shirts), but also “winter” clothes (trousers and a sweatshirt).

  • Changing clothes

Suppose you want to try the various hot springs (Poça da Dona Beija, Parque Terra Nostra or Caldeira Velha). In that case, I advise you to take old clothes that can get ruined and different bikinis (opt for bikinis or dark swimsuits) because the iron in the water can ruin your clothes.

  • Roads very easy to drive

One of my biggest fears was driving, as I’m used to a city with little traffic, no big inclines, so I was afraid to drive on the island due to its pavement. However, the roads are very quiet and easy to drive.

  • Parking at attractions is almost always free

  • Go in June (recommendation from the hotel staff member)

The big dislike of the Azores was the weather. When talking with one of the hotel staff about the fact that we did not have the opportunity to see several of the attractions due to rain and fog, the lady advised us to visit the island in June. It is a month where usually the lagoons are more likely to be uncovered, and there is still little tourist traffic.

  • Always carry food and water

Many places are remote and completely in the middle of nature, so always take food and water with you to safeguard yourself.

  • Restaurante O Estradinho:

A typical Portuguese restaurant with great food (I deeply advise you to try the tuna) and excellent service, without delays. I put this restaurant as a tip, as it is located near the marina of Ponta Delgada, with very affordable prices. I had my last three meals here, as the hotel where I was staying is right next door. Many times there are overrated restaurants, and that sometimes lose their essence. That’s why I leave this suggestion.

Questions and Answers

  • How long did you go? I made this trip for five days. However, due to the airport transfers, I only had three full days on the island. I would advise you to stay 1 or 2 more days to see the attractions calmly.
  • What did you like the most about the Azores? The fact of being in constant contact with nature. It is a very quiet place, perfect for recharging your batteries.
  • Did you rent a car? If yes, where? Way2Azores
  • Can you make a top 5 of attractions? In my opinion, in no order, I would say the Lagoa do Congro, the Lagoa das Sete Cidades, the Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, Mosteiros Beach and Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego.
  • Do you recommend staying in the same hotel? Or change depending on the itinerary? I always stayed in the same hotel, and I enjoyed my stay. However, knowing what I know today, I think I would choose to change hotels depending on the places on the island to visit so as not to be so tiring and to be able to stay longer in certain sites.

O centro da cidade ostenta grande quantidade de vias fluviais e pontes. É também caraterizada pelas suas casas típicas, edifícios universitários e museus com exposições espantosas. Leiden tem inúmeros terraços, restaurantes e cafés onde podes aproveitar para desfrutar de um pacífico final de tarde.

Molen De Valk

DeValk é o último moinho de vento que restou dos dezanove originais que se encontravam junto às muralhas de Leiden e foi transformado num museu em 1966🕰️. Tem sete andares e todos eles abertos ao público. No andar de baixo podes ter a oportunidade de ver a única casa de moleiro que ainda existe na Holanda. 🏠

Aqui vais ter oportunidade de tirar fotografias muito bonitas com os típicos moinhos holandeses e também apreciar a vida que existe na cidade, sendo que este lugar se encontra no centro da mesma. Este é um dos lugares de eleição para desfrutar do canal e fazer um piquenique.

Molen De Put

O Molen de Put é uma réplica de um moinho de milho de madeira com apenas 30 anos, rodeado de casas icónicas e diversas pontes. O moinho original data o ano de 1619 e era propriedade de Jan Janszoon Put. Contudo, o primeiro moinho ardeu em 1640, foi reconstruído em 1729 e destruído novamente em 1817. A fundação do moinho octogonal foi mais tarde descoberta em 1982 e reconstruída de novo em 1986, graças a uma campanha de angariação de fundos entre a população de Leiden. 🔨

A primeira fotografia demonstra a incrível paisagem que se pode obter do moinho e da ponte Rembrandt que se situa mesmo ao seu lado. Na segunda fotografia, está presente a Casa Vermelha, como eu costumo chamar-lhe devido às suas portadas vermelhas. Esta é uma das casas mais bonitas e fotogénicas da cidade.

Rapenburg

O Rapenburg é o canal mais bonito da cidade de Leiden. Os geógrafos do século XVIII elegeram-no, em tempos, como o lugar mais bonito do mundo. 🌼

Curiosidades:

  • Vários membros da Família Real passaram os seus anos de estudantes em Leiden e ficavam num dormitório que se situava no canal de Rapenburg.
  • Em 2000, o imperador japonês visitou os Países Baixos e algo extraordinário aconteceu. Na porta com o número 51, o imperador parou para falar com três dos estudantes que ali se encontravam. No Japão, seria um ato impensável o imperador conversar com pessoas consideradas “normais”.

No mapa que preparei está a localização dos lugares, que na minha opinião, são os mais bonitos do canal.

Burcht van Leiden

O Castelo de Leiden é um dos mais antigos dos Países Baixos. O castelo ergue-se sobre uma colina artificial. Os arqueólogos descobriram que esta colina foi construída no final do século IX. O Burcht também teve uma função militar muito importante. Este é um dos lugares imperdíveis quando se visita a querida cidade de Leiden. 🏰

A vista do Burcht van Leiden vai deixar-te impressionado/a, pois vais ver o colossal monumento Pieterskerk e vais ter uma bela vista sobre a cidade. Um dos lugares que também é ótimo para fotografar é o Parque Hooglandse Kerkgracht, que se situa no caminho para o Burcht van Leiden.

Se visitares este lugar, não te esqueças de passar por um dos portões da cidade o “Burg Poort”, esta emblemática entrada com o leão e a sua espada, vai deixar-te ainda mais encantado/a com o lugar, e vais ter a oportunidade de tirar lindas fotografias, devido à sua envolvência. 🦁

Ao saíres do Portão, se continuares em frente vais encontrar a Rua Nieuwstraat, com imensos bares e restaurantes. Aqui vais apreciar o movimento da cidade e observar o quotidiano dos seus habitantes. 🍸 Uma das fotografias que mais gostei de capturar foi a última, não só devido à sua simplicidade, mas também ao facto de as pessoas estarem no seu momento de descontração.

Catharinabrug

A zona de Aalmarkt, no centro histórico da cidade de Leiden, é onde se encontra a surpreendente Ponte Catharina, que ao ser construída conseguiu criar uma nova rota de compras circular. Vista de cima, a ponte tem a forma de um S e é curvada de forma a otimizar o fluxo de tráfego.

Daqui vais conseguir obter uma bonita perspetiva da zona comercial de Leiden, mas também dos seus restaurantes e bares com terraços nos canais e admirar os seus monumentos. 🎁🍴

Kerkbrug

A Kerkbrug é uma das 18 pontes que atravessa a Oude Rijn em Leiden. Esta ponte específica liga a Hooglandse Kerkgracht com a Hooglandse Kerksteeg. É a última ponte suspensa e dupla que resta em Leiden e uma das poucas pontes da cidade que ainda pode ser aberta manualmente. 🌉

Pauwbrug é o nome da ponte onde tirei esta fotografia. Um lugar que transmite uma grande tranquilidade. Aluguei esta bicicleta na Swapfiets de Leiden durante 1 mês, um serviço que sem dúvida aconselho para quem quiser passar uma temporada na cidade. 🚲

Mais afastado do centro movimentado da cidade, o Sterrenpark, localizado na zona de Witte Singel, é um lugar muito bonito para visitares e apanhares um pouco de sol. Aqui vais encontrar pessoas a passearem de barco com a família e amigos ao longo do canal e vais ter a oportunidade de descontrair. Aproveita e tira fotografias incríveis. No mapa vou dizer o lugar exato de onde tirei esta fotografia. ⛵

Are you passionate about photography and like to capture the best moments of the cities you visit? Leiden, without a doubt, is one of the most enchanting cities in the Netherlands and so in this article, I will show you the places where you can take the best photos and the exact locations so that you don’t miss a thing!

The city centre boasts a large number of waterways and bridges. It is also characterised by its typical houses, university buildings, and museums with amazing exhibitions. Leiden has numerous large terraces, restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a peaceful evening.

*This guide is based on the places I most enjoyed visiting and photographing in the city. Leiden is a very beautiful city, and you will find charming places around every corner. However, these suggestions are good if you want some inspiration. 📸

Molen De Valk

DeValk is the last windmill left of the original nineteen that stood next to the walls of Leiden. It was turned into a museum in 1966. 🕰️ It has seven floors, all open to the public, and on the bottom floor, you can have the opportunity to see the only miller’s house that still exists in the Netherlands. 🏠

Here you will have the opportunity not only to take very beautiful and typical Dutch pictures but also to appreciate the life in the city, being that this place is in the centre of it. This is one of my favourite places to enjoy and have a picnic.

Molen De Put

The Molen de Put is a replica of a wooden corn mill that is only 30 years old, surrounded by iconic houses and several bridges. The original mill dated back to 1619 and was owned by Jan Janszoon Put. However, the first mill burned down in 1640, was rebuilt in 1729 and destroyed again in 1817. The foundation of the octagonal mill was later discovered in 1982. Finally, it was rebuilt in 1986, thanks to a fundraising campaign among the people of Leiden. 🔨

The first photograph demonstrates the incredible landscape obtained from the mill and the Rembrandt Bridge next to it. The Red House is present in the second photo, as I usually call it, because of its red shutters. This is one of the most beautiful and photogenic houses in the city.

Rapenburg

The Rapenburg is the most beautiful canal in the city of Leiden. Geographers of the 18th century once voted it as the most beautiful place in the world. 🌼

Curiosities:

  • Several members of the Royal Family spent their student years in Leiden and stayed in a dormitory located on the Rapenburg canal.
  • In 2000, the Japanese Emperor visited the Netherlands, and something extraordinary happened. At the door with the number 51, the emperor stopped to talk to three students there. It would be an unthinkable act in Japan for the emperor to talk to people considered “normal”.

On the map I prepared is the location of the places, which in my opinion, are the most beautiful on the canal.

Burcht van Leiden

Leiden Castle is one of the oldest castles in the Netherlands. The castle stands on an artificial hill. Archaeologists have discovered that this hill was built at the end of the 9th century. The Burcht also had a very important military function. This is one of the must-see places when visiting the beloved city of Leiden. 🏰

The view from the Burcht van Leiden will leave you impressed, as you will see the colossal Pieterskerk monument, and you will have a great view of the city. One of the places also great for photography is the Hooglandse Kerkgracht Park, which is located on the way to the Burcht van Leiden.

Don’t forget to pass through one of the city gates, the “Burg Poort”, if you visit this place. The iconic entrance with the lion and his sword, will make you even more enchanted with the area, and you’ll have the opportunity to take beautiful pictures because of its surroundings. 🦁

When you leave the Gate, if you continue straight ahead, you’ll come to Nieuwstraat Street, with lots of bars and restaurants. Here, you’ll enjoy the city’s movement and get to see its inhabitants’ daily lives. 🍸 One of the photos I liked most to capture was the last one, not only because of its simplicity but also because people were in their moment of relaxation.

Catharinabrug

The Aalmarkt area in the historic city centre of Leiden is where you will find the amazing Catharina Bridge, which by being built, managed to create a new circular shopping route. The bridge seen from above does an S-shape and curve to optimise the flow of traffic.

From here, you’ll get a beautiful perspective of Leiden’s shopping area, but also its restaurants and bars with terraces on the canals and admire its surrounding monuments. 🎁🍴

Kerkbrug

The Kerkbrug is one of the 18 bridges that cross the Oude Rijn in Leiden. This particular bridge connects the Hooglandse Kerkgracht with the Hooglandse Kerksteeg. It is the last remaining double suspension bridge in Leiden and one of the few bridges in the city that can still be opened manually. 🌉

Photography with bicycle

Pauwbrug is the name of the bridge where I took this photo. The bridge is a place that conveys great tranquillity. About the bike: I rented this bike at Swapfiets in Leiden for 1 month, a service that I definitely recommend for anyone who wants to spend a season in the city. 🚲

Sterrenpark

Further away from the busy city centre, Sterrenpark, located in the Witte Singel area, is a nice place to visit and catch some sun. Here you will find several people boating with family and friends along the canal, and you will have a chance to relax. Enjoy it and take some great pictures. Instagrammable Spots: Amesterdão

Quem me conhece sabe que eu sou apaixonada por fotografia e por isso, quis descobrir a cidade através das lentes da minha máquina fotográfica e criar um roteiro que também possas fazer e assim apaixonares-te pela cidade!

A famosa capital dos Países Baixos é uma cidade que aconselho a todos a visitarem. Os seus históricos edifícios, museus de cortar a respiração e ainda com um ambiente envolvente fascinante e cheio de vida.

Faz uma tour pelos canais da cidade ou aluga uma bicicleta e vive a verdadeira experiência holandesa. Experimenta a sua gastronomia, as bitterballen, poffertjes, stamppot ou os stroopwafel. Se és apreciador/a de bebidas alcoólicas bebe uma cerveja ou um gin.

Como foi a terceira vez que visitei Amesterdão, nesta viagem decidi fazer somente um sightseeing pela cidade. Quem me conhece sabe que eu sou apaixonada por fotografia e por isso, quis descobrir a cidade através das lentes da minha máquina fotográfica (e ps: o budget também já estava a chegar ao limite) e criar um roteiro que também possas fazer e assim apaixonares-te pela cidade!

*No final deste itinerário vou incluir alguns locais extra que acho que devias de visitar caso vás a Amesterdão.

Damrak

Este lugar é muito conhecido em Amesterdão devido ao facto de se situar junto ao canal onde começam as várias tours de barcos, mas também devido às casas estreitas e tradicionais que podes ver.

Dica: A melhor hora para visitar este lugar é logo pela manhã, por volta das 8h-9h de forma a evitares esperar para tirar uma fotografia e deslumbrares este lugar.

Anne Frank House

Anne Frank é uma das ex-residentes mais conhecidas de Amesterdão. A Casa Anne Frank em Prinsengracht 263 em Amesterdão é onde viveu escondida com a sua família durante mais de dois anos durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Este é um dos locais mais visitados e também mais fotografados de Amesterdão. Cheguei à casa da Anne Frank um pouco antes da abertura (por volta das 8h45) e já era visível a fila para a compra dos bilhetes.

Dica: Caso pretendas tirar fotografias ao exterior da casa, aconselho-te a vir o mais cedo possível, por volta das 8h-8h30. Se quiseres inclusive visitá-la, aconselho que compres o bilhete online antecipadamente.

Melhor rua para fotografar o Westerkerk

Esta é a melhor rua onde podes fotografar com o Westerkerk situada num bairro acolhedor, tranquilo e típico de Amesterdão.

Dica: Para apanhares uma melhor composição da fotografia, aconselho-te a ires para o centro da rua. Contudo tem cuidado, pois é uma zona de passagem de bicicletas e por isso toda a atenção é pouca para que não haja nenhum acidente. A melhor hora é por volta das 9h-10h que ainda não há nenhuma confusão na rua.

Bloemgracht: O canal mais bonito

Após visitar a melhor rua para fotografar o Westerkerk, segui pelo canal Bloemgracht e a cada passo ficava mais apaixonada por esta localização. O canal é sem dúvida um dos mais bonitos da cidade de Amesterdão, uma zona calma, rodeada de casas típicas holandesas onde podemos deslumbrar do quotidiano de quem ali habita.

A casa planta

Estava a fazer o percurso de bicicleta desde o canal de Bloemgracht até ao Rijksmuseum e deparei-me com uma linda construção, junto à Galeria de Arte Contemporânea “Cloud Gallery” e não poderia deixar de mencionar este lugar neste artigo.

A casa fotogénica

É impossível ficar indiferente a esta casa localizada antes do Rijksmuseum. Após tirar fotografias e ao fazer este itinerário para ti é que descobri que esta casa, na verdade é o “Atlas” um escritório de advocacia fiscal independente. Contudo, toda a envolvência e as características deste escritório vão deixar-te com um desejo de aqui tirar uma fotografia.

Rijksmuseum

O Rijksmuseum é um museu nacional holandês dedicado às artes e à história em Amesterdão. Nesta viagem acabei por não visitar o interior do Museu, mas decidi visitar os seus jardins e realmente é espantoso ver o quão colossal é este edifício.

As letras “I amsterdam” foram retiradas do exterior do Rijksmuseum depois de terem sido acusadas de promover o turismo de massas. Apesar disso, este é um lugar maravilhoso para tirar fotografias e por isso aconselho-te imenso a visitares.

Dica: Se pretendes visitar algum museu/fazer alguma experiência adquire os bilhetes online com a máxima antecedência possível para evitares filas e para não teres a infeliz surpresa de alguns locais já estarem esgotados.

Wake me up when I am famous

Em 2013, um artista local decidiu pintar uma parede ao lado da sua casa com este slogan “Acorda-me quando for famoso”. Um design tão simples de palavras, que se transformou numa verdadeira sensação da Internet. Antigamente existia um banco para que as pessoas pudessem tirar fotografias “a dormir”. Atualmente, esse banco já não existe, mas mesmo assim, considero um ótimo local para visitar até porque fica localizado no bairro de “De Pijp”.

Um bairro que é perfeito para quem quer tirar fotografias bonitas na cidade de Amesterdão, um bairro com casas tradicionais, pequenas lojas boutique muito coloridas, com muitas áreas verdes, e com um cheiro delicioso a panquecas vindas dos cafés envolventes.

Bloemenmarkt

Este é o mercado de flores que não vais querer perder. Faça chuva ou faça sol, este mercado fica junto ao canal Singel no centro da cidade e está repleto de cores vibrantes e fragrâncias de flores frescas (Segunda-feira – Sábado: 9h30 às 17h30 e aos domingos: 11h30 às 17h30).

Aqui vais ter a oportunidade de te deslumbrares com as flores e souvenirs holandeses e tirar fotografias muito bonitas, junto das flores frescas da cidade.

Dica: Os Países Baixos possuem uma grande variedade de flores e os preços são bastante acessíveis. Por isso aconselho-te a comprares uma flor, não só para dar alguma cor às tuas fotografias, mas também porque é uma bonita compra que fazes nesta linda cidade.

Junta o útil ao agradável: Experimenta os famosos stroopwafels e tira uma fotografia com este biscoito delicioso.

Melhor fotografia com reflexos

Passei por este local de bicicleta e fiquei completamente deslumbrada pelas casas junto aos canais e os reflexos que as casas faziam na água. Contudo, não parei para tirar nenhuma fotografia, pois já estava com muito pouco tempo para chegar ao comboio na estação de Amesterdão Central. Independentemente disso, sinto que tinha de vos aconselhar a passarem por aqui e a tirarem fotografias porque realmente é uma rua que vale apena ser vista.

De Oude Kerk como cenário

Este é um dos melhores lugares para fotografar em Amesterdão. Todo o ambiente é absolutamente incrível, o De Oude Kerk como cenário, as pessoas na esplanada, os barcos a passarem pelo canal. Vais ficar surpreendido/a pela positiva ao visitares este lugar.

Vista panorâmica da Estação Central

A estação de Amsterdam Centraal foi criada pelo arquiteto holandês Pierre Cuypers e inaugurado em 1889. Possui um estilo gótico, renascentista e um telhado de ferro fundido com cerca de 40 metros de extensão. Vale apena fotografar esta estação sendo que é um marco tão importante da cidade e sendo que tem uma vista tão bonita.

The famous capital of the Netherlands is a city I recommend everyone to visit. Its historical buildings, breathtaking museums and fascinating surroundings are full of life.

Take a tour through the city canals or rent a bike and live the true Dutch experience. Try its gastronomy, bitterballen, poffertjes, stamppot or stroopwafel. If you are an alcoholic drinker, have a beer or a gin.

It was the third time I visited Amsterdam, so I decided to do just sightseeing around the city on this trip. Who knows me knows that I love photography, so I wanted to discover the city through the lens of my camera (and ps: the budget was also reaching its limit) and create an itinerary that you can also do and fall in love with the city!

*At the end of this itinerary, I will include some extra places that I think you should visit if you visit Amsterdam.

Damrak

This place is very well known in Amsterdam because it is located by the canal where the various boat tours start, but also due to the narrow, traditional houses you can see

Tip: The best time to visit this place is around 8am-9am so that you don’t have to wait to take a picture and admire the site.

Anne Frank House

Anne Frank is one of Amsterdam’s best known former residents. Anne Frank House at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam is where she lived in hiding with her family for over two years during the Second World War.

This is one of the most visited and also most photographed places in Amsterdam. I arrived at Anne Frank’s house a little before opening time (around 8:45am). The queue to buy tickets was already visible.

Tip: If you want to take pictures outside the house, I advise you to come as early as possible, around 8am. If you even want to visit it, I recommend you to buy the ticket online in advance.

The best street to photograph the Westerkerk

This is the best street to photograph with the Westerkerk situated in a cosy, quiet and typical Amsterdam neighbourhood.

Tip: To get a better composition of the photo, I advise you to go to the centre of the street. Be careful, though, as this is an area where bikes pass through, so you should be cautious not to have any accidents. The best time is around 9-10am when there is still no confusion in the street.

Bloemgracht: The most beautiful canal

After visiting the best street to photograph the Westerkerk, I followed the Bloemgracht canal. With each step, I was more in love with this location. The canal is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Amsterdam, a quiet area surrounded by typical Dutch houses where we can glimpse the daily life of those who live there.

The house plant

I was cycling from the Bloemgracht canal to the Rijksmuseum. I came across a beautiful building next to the Contemporary Art Gallery, “Cloud Gallery,” and I couldn’t help but mention this place in this article.

The photogenic house

It is impossible to remain indifferent to this house located before the Rijksmuseum. After taking pictures and making this itinerary for you, I discovered that this house is actually the “Atlas”, an independent tax law office. However, the whole surroundings and the features of this office will leave you with a desire to take a picture here.

Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. On this trip, I ended up not visiting the inside of the Museum. Still, I decided to visit its gardens, and it really is amazing to see how colossal this building is.

The letters “I Amsterdam” were removed from the exterior of the Rijksmuseum after they were accused of promoting mass tourism. Despite this, this is a wonderful place to take photos, so I highly recommend you visit.

Tip: If you intend to visit any museum or do any experience, buy the tickets online to avoid queues and ensure that the tickets are not sold out.

Wake me up when I am famous

In 2013, a local artist decided to paint a wall next to his house with the slogan “Wake me up when I am famous”. Such a simple word design, it became a real internet sensation. There used to be a bench so that people could take pictures “in their sleep”. Nowadays, this bench no longer exists, but I still think it is a great place to visit because it is located in the neighbourhood of “De Pijp”.

De Pijp is perfect for those who want to take beautiful pictures in the city of Amsterdam. It is a neighbourhood with traditional houses, small boutique shops very colourful, many green areas, and a delicious smell of pancakes coming from the surrounding cafes.

Bloemenmarkt

This is the flower market you won’t want to miss. Come rain or shine, this market is located by the Singel canal in the city centre. It is filled with vibrant colours and fresh flower fragrances (Monday – Saturday: 9.30am – 5.30pm and Sundays: 11.30am – 5.30pm).

Here you will have the opportunity to be dazzled by the Dutch flowers and souvenirs and take beautiful pictures next to the fresh flowers of the city.

Tip: The Netherlands has a wide variety of flowers, and the prices are quite affordable. So I advise you to buy a flower to add some colour to your photos and because it is a beautiful purchase you make in this beautiful city.

Best photo with reflections

I rode my bike past this place and was completely overwhelmed by the houses’ reflections made in the water. However, I didn’t stop to take any photos as I was already very short of time to get to the train at Amsterdam Central station. Regardless, I felt the need to advise you to stop by and take photos because it really is a street worth seeing.

With Oude Kerk as a backdrop

This is one of the best places to photograph in Amsterdam. The whole atmosphere is absolutely amazing, De Oude Kerk as a backdrop, the people on the terrace, the boats passing on the canal. You’ll be pleasantly surprised when you visit this place.

Panoramic view of the Central Station

Amsterdam Centraal Station was designed by the Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers and opened in 1889. It has a Gothic and Renaissance style and a 40-metre long cast-iron roof. It is worth photographing this station as it is such an important landmark of the city and has such a beautiful view.
